Detour Announced

As part of the Rockland to Brunswick Railroad Rehabilitation project, the Department of Transportation (DOT) has announced a detour in Woolwich.

On August 29-30, the Old Meadow Road railroad crossing in Woowich will be closed due to construction. Vehicular traffic will be detoured onto Gray Corner Road, Mountain Road, Route 1 and Shore Road.

The detours are a result of the $23 million Rockland-Brunswick Railroad Rehabilitation Project. The project involves the upgrade of 56 miles of track between Rockland and Brunswick. The upgrade will allow both freight and passenger trains to increase speed from the current 10 miles per hour to a maximum of 59 miles per hour. Atlas Railroad Construction Co. of Pennsylvania is the General Contractor on the project. Construction is expected to continue through October 2002.

For updates on the Rockland-Brunswick Railroad Rehabilitation project, the public can call 1-800-588-MDOT.
