Elderly Housing Project Approved Pending Word From DEP
John Meo
The Wiscasset Planning Board gave final approval to the Wiscasset Limited
Housing Partnership and its plan to build a senior living community behind
Ames Department Store.
The boards go-ahead comes with the caveat that the drainage plan submitted to
the Maine Department of Environmental Protection must be approved.
Tom Curtis, an abutter who has been following the progress of the plan told
board members Monday night he is very pleased with what the blueprints had to
say.
Board Chairman Steve Jarrett instructed Marcia Brown, representing the
partnership, to come back to the board once approval is received from the
department.
The project involves the construction of a three-story, 60-unit facility
featuring one and two bedroom apartments.
The apartments will be rented at varying rates, 75 percent of them for
standard market price and 25 percent going for prices mandated by the U.S.
Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Individual apartments come with a full kitchen and bathroom, living and
dining areas and wall to wall carpeting. Amenities include gardening lots,
sitting and picnic areas and walking paths, a library and music room, a hair
salon, computer, television, exercise and game rooms.
Group transportation for shopping, appointments and local services, along
with housekeeping and linen service will also be available.
