Two Residents Killed
Two Wiscasset residents who had stopped at a blueberry vendors stand on Route 1 were killed Tuesday, afternoon, August 28. According to the Lincoln County Sheriffs Department, both men who died had gotten out of their cars, when they were hit by a motorist who had swerved onto the shoulder to avoid a stopped line of traffic. The accident happened near Sherman Lake in Newcastle. According to police Erlon Bailey, 61, of Wiscasset was pronounced dead at the scene and Ian Graham, 59, also of Wiscasset, was taken to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta, where he later died. A preliminary investigation by the sheriffs department revealed that the car that struck the vendors stand, which was well off the roadway, was driven by Edith Beyer, 87, of Copenhagen, Denmark. Beyer was traveling south. She and a passenger, Christian Beyer, 89, were both taken to Miles Hospital. The Newcastle Fire Department and Central Lincoln County Ambulance Services responded to the crash, which remains under investigation. | |
