Rolling Around Wiscasset

Neil Hawthorne was given final approval Monday night by the Wiscasset Planning Board for his plans to remodel a building on Chewonki Neck Road into a roller skating rink. The building, presently 100 feet by 50 feet, will be 160 feet by 80 feet once the renovations are complete. Hawthorne, from Topsham, was supported at the hearing by at least a dozen people, some wearing Galaxy of Wheels T-shirts. He said the rink will contain a smaller floor for children learning to skate, a snack bar and an arcade. No one spoke against the proposed roller rink although Hawthornes attorney, Richard Hornbeck, was present to field any questions. The approval was given with unanimous consent of the board. Hawthorne will have until August 27 of next year to begin construction. | |
