Edgecomb Selectmen Discuss Road Conditions
Charlotte Boynton
Edgecomb selectmen discussed the condition of the Shore Road, Englebrekt Road, and the culvert on the Cross Point Road, with the town's Road Commissioner Russ Griffin. Griffin recommended the town consider doing some work on those roads. He said the Shore Road needs to be widened and some work is needed on the Englebrekt Road. Selectman Rodd Hopper said the work on the Englebrekt Road would probably take three years. "First we have to have the Englebrekt Road surveyed before we can do any work on it. We have to know what is town property," he said. Following the survey Hopper indicated the second step would be to prepare the road for tarring, and the third year do the tarring itself. Griffin was asked to get some estimates for the work he recommends should be done this next year. Chat and Check The selectmen agreed to allow a public health nurse to use the town office for the Chat and Check Blood Pressure Clinic. The first clinic will be held at the town hall Tuesday, January 21 from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. This is a free public service to the midcoast community, according to Hopper. The reason it is called chat and check is because it gives the visitors an opportunity to chat, socialize, and have light refreshments while having their blood pressure checked. More information is available by calling Gail Boudin, at 882-7972. Schmid Committee Appointment Dick Oulton was appointed by the selectmen to serve on the Schmid Preserve Advisory Committee. Planning Board The selectmen will meet with the Edgecomb Planning Board, Monday, February 3, at 5:30 p.m. The agenda will include discussions on the Route 27 study, and the re-use of the old Edgecomb Eddy School. Discussion of Old Eddy School The selectmen discussed the disposition of the old Eddy School. Hopper reported he had spoke with an attorney from the Maine Municipal Association regarding the process of the town accepting the old school from the school board. Hopper said it was his understanding the selectmen could accept the school from the school committee as long as the deed was in the town's name (which it is). However, to sell or dispose of the school, the selectmen will need the approval of the town. Hopper said any money gained from the sale of the school would be used to pay Edgecomb's debt for the new school. Next Selectmen's Meeting The next selectmen's meeting will be held Monday, January 27 at 4 p.m. There will be no meeting January 20, due to the Martin Luther King holiday. The committee working on the disposition of the old Eddy School will meet following the selectmen's meeting at 5:30 on January 27. |
