Wiscasset Public Library

Pamella Dunning

There is something new at the library these days. If you see a curious eye peeking at you through the bookshelves or a quick flash of fur run past the circulation desk, don't be alarmed. A few weeks ago akitten came looking for a home. She has found one at the library. Little Catrina (a 12-week old part Himalayan) comes in most mornings and stays through the work day. Whether she is sleeping in the librarians' seats or walking through the inkpad to mark her progress across the desk, sheis as fun as any kitten can be. She is speedy and feisty and into everything, but she isalso adorable.

The Community Read is off to a great start. The Wiscasset Public Library, partnered with Patten Free Library of Bath, Curtis Memorial Library of Brunswick and Topsham Public Library, kicked off Open A Book, Open A Community earlier this month.

Many people within these communities have already checked out copies of 1984 by George Orwell. Orwell's vision of a world gone wrong still offers an important message today.

With all of the issues of privacy and increased surveillance in the news, this 100th anniversary of Orwell's birthis an excellent time to revisit 1984.Over 35 copies were checked out at Wiscasset Public last week!

Come in and get a copy so you can enter into the many discussions and enjoy the wonderful programs coming up in March.

Looking for something to do on a cold and blustery winter day? Why not stop in and visit the fiction room at the library? Not only are therethousands of books to hold your interest, there is usually a puzzle in progress.

Come in and spend a few minutes or a couple of hours completing the picture.

Once again the librarians are gearing up to take inventory of the collection. In order to make the process as efficient as possible, the library will be closedthe week of February3 through 9. Don't be caught with nothing to read. Come in to the library and check out some good books. Regular library hours will resume on Tuesday, February 11.
