Cookies And Palesky On Edgecomb Table

Patrice Veilleux

Tired of hearing that those who oppose the Palesky tax cap are simply using scare tactics,a group of Edgecomb neighbors have banded together to organize a town party on Sunday, September 19, from 2 to 4 p.m.to educate themselves about the reasons why they might not want to vote for this particular tax cap in November.

"Yes, there is a problem with taxes and yes, they keep going up. But is this the right way to stop it? Iwant to find out more about it," said Amanda Russell who is hosting the large gathering."I want to get as much information as I canand make up my own mindabout this contentious issue," she added.

Promising home baked cookies and fresh brewed coffee, every Edgecomb resident isinvited to meetand chat with all their elected officials inthe relaxed, casual setting of Amanada Russell and Andy Abello's old-fashioned barn which crowns their managed forestat Wind Ridge Farm on Middle Road.

State Representative Bill Earle will introduce the guest speaker Wes Bonney, chairman of the coalition, Citizens United to Protect our Public Safety, Schools and Communities, which claims to "tell the truth" about how the Palesky tax cap will ultimately affect local residents.

"I'm really looking forward to hearing what he has to say about Paleski," said Edgecomb resident, Patty Veilleux. "My grandmother used to love to say, if it's too good to be true, itprobably is.' And that's what Iworry is going on with the Paleski tax cap. It's promising a quick fix that might ultimately destroy our infrastructure. It will be interesting to hear what Wes Bonney and Senator Chris Hall have to say about it."

Senator Hall will follow Bonney's comments with a discussion as to what alternatives are available to this very real property tax crisis that is deeply affecting Maine homeowners.

Edgecomb town selectmen andEdgecomb Eddy School teachers will also be listeningwith interest, joining residents indebating the pros and cons of the Palesky tax cap and how it willimpact Edgecomb residents and students, the Mid-coastregion and Maine overall.
