Well here it is, the end of the summer and one can only wonder
where did it go, or did we have it at all. I spent a lot of time away going here and there. That might account for how fast it went, but whatever the reason, it is gone and now fall is here and it will fill our lives with color and cool crisp air getting things ready for what will come next. I do so love living in Maine. Every season has its beauty. The Fire Department would like to thank all the people that gave items to the department for the yard sale. It was a very successful fundraiser. The department has been given a quilt by the Friendship Chain Quilt Group to raffle off. The members have got the tickets, so if you see any of them, ask if they do not ask you first. The Friendship Chain Quilt Group does so much good with making quilts to give away to organizations to raise money. Every one of the quilts that I have seen to date have been really nice. The fire department is still looking for new members. There are a lot of needs -- not just fire fighting, so if you think that you might be some help in any area give Chief Rusty a call at 882-6385 or come by the station on a Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. and see if you can be of any help. The First Responders are still looking for people to help with first aid. More than likely, the first people you will see if you need medical emergency help will be the first responders. They let the ambulance attendants know what the problem is and help get things ready for the attendants. They are very important and very much needed. Without first responders, it takes that much longer for help to arrive. Again, stop by some Wednesday evening or call Roland at 882-7651. Friends and Neighbors had the second meeting on Monday and it was a lot of fun with fellowshipping and playing a new card game and some refreshments. We formed Friends and Neighbors because we thought that it was time that the seniors' room got used for what it was intended: a place for people to get together, visit, have a cup of coffee or play games with the people from all over the Island. So if you would like to have something to do on a Monday afternoon the next meetings will be on September 13 and September 27 at 3 p.m. at the Town Office Building in the seniors' room. We sure hope to see you there. Everyone is welcome to come. |
