Woolwich Postal Employee Honored
Woolwich Postal Clerk Deborah Locke is one of five postal employees honored September 8 at a special luncheon for Postal Service Leaders and Heroes. The five employees were nominated by their fellow employees, and were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the Postal Service and their communities. Locke was nominated by her Postmaster Cheryl Perry, who submitted five letters of gratitude from local agencies and civic organizations recognizing Locke's outstanding contributions. She was nominated for being an excellent postal employee who goes the extra mile for her customers and co-workers, according to Perry. In nominating her Perry said, "She is well known for her quick smile and joyful nature. Debbie Locke is a perfect example of both a leader and a hero." In addition to her duties at the Woolwich Post Office she donates her time, money and energy to many local good causes. She is a member of the board of directors for a local private school and camp. She has volunteered for the local chapter of the Salvation Army for 14 years, and is a former member of the organization's advisory board. Locke is an active member of her church, teaches Sunday school and served as the superintendent of that school for over 15 years. She is the President of the Woolwich Historical Society, an organization she has participated in for over 18 years. Another honoree was Sgt. Lawrence Roukey of Westbrook, a custodian at the Portland Processing and Distribution Center, who was killed in Iraq while on active duty with the 304th Regiment of Army Reserves. Sgt Roukey was the first postal employee in the country killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom. His widow and other family members attended the event in his honor. District Manager Elizabeth Johnson said, "The District of Maine is proud to recognize these employees who have made significant contributions to their communities, to their work groups and to our organization. Each of them exemplifies the true spirit of the United States Postal Service." Other employees honored by the Postal Service include: Catherine Butts. Portland; Leon Gallant, Lincolnville; and Robin Rie, Hampden. |
