James Bailey, 87, died Wed-nesday, October 27 at Maine Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of Wiscasset. Born in Wiscasset at home in June, 1917, he was the son of Harold and Evelyn Bailey. Mr. Bailey attended Wiscasset schools and graduated from Wiscasset Academy in 1935 and then attended Northeastern Business College in Portland. On April 22, 1939, he married Leona Weeks in Wiscasset. They were married for 49 years before she died in April 1988. During most of World War II he was employed by Bath Iron Works before he was drafted into the Army in 1945. After his discharge he farmed for six years before going to work for Central Maine Power Co. at the Mason Station. He retired after 27 years in 1979. In January 1992 he married Barbara Marr. Mr. Bailey was a member of the Woolwich Wiscasset Baptist Church in Woolwich since he was a teenager. He was the church's treasurer from 1951 to 2002. When he was younger he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was predeceased by his son Jimmy in August 2001. Survivors include his wife; one son, Fred of Edgewater, Florida; one sister, Marcia Wilson of Wiscasset; six grandsons; two granddaughters; nine great-grandchild-ren; two nieces; three great-nieces; and three step-grandchildren. There will be a memorial service on Thursday, November 4 at 11 a.m. at the Woolwich Wiscasset Baptist Church in Woolwich with Rev. Gerald Morrison. There will be no visiting hours. Eleanor F. Barter, 51, died Monday October 25th at her home in Boothbay Harbor. Born April 22, 1953 in Boothbay, she was a daughter of Albert D. and Winona Webber Blackman. She grew up on the Dover Road in Boothbay and attended local schools. Mrs. Barter was a cook for many restaurants in the area including Sarah's, Thistle Inn, Coburn House, Ledge's and lastly at Rosita's in Brunswick. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Her interests included jigsaw puzzles, photography, and racing. She was very family-oriented. She also enjoyed people. She was predeceased by her parents; brother, Wesley G. Blackman; sister, Donna L. Blackman. Survivors include one son, James A. Barter and his wife Tamela Dawn Barter of Newcastle; grandsons, Devin James Barter and Brandon Michael Barter, both of Newcastle, three sisters, Vicki Lea Wilson of Bowdoinham, Lilli Rana Pavonis, formerly Sally Ann Hart of East Sound, Wash., Georgia Mae Leeman of Boothbay Harbor; six brothers, Dennis A. Blackman and George J. Blackman, both of Boothbay, Warren P. Blackman of Naples, Italy, Donald K. Blackman of Edgecomb, Charles E. Blackman of Boothbay Harbor and Albert G. Blackman of Brownville; several nieces and nephews. A private family service was held Sunday, October 31. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, Coastal Resource Center, Box 8, 521 Main Street, Damariscotta, ME 04543. Arrangements were under the direction of Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay. Alice Jewett Gregoire, 97, of Head Tide, died Tuesday, October 26 at Country Manor in Coopers Mills. Born in Alna on February 2, 1907, she was the daughter of Glen and Lydia (Keene) Jewett. She grew up at Head Tide, attended schools in Alna and graduated from Lincoln Academy. She attended Coburn Classical Institute and graduated from Colby College in 1929 with degrees in English and foreign language. In 1936 she married Victor Gregoire. She received her Master's degree in education from the University of Maine in 1961 and taught in many schools in Maine. After more than 30 years of teaching she retired and returned to Head Tide. She was a member of the Shakespeare Club in Alna, Friends of the Old Head Tide Church and the Maine Teachers Association. Mrs. Gregoire enjoyed gardening, traveling and rug hooking. Survivors include two daughters, Naomi Nelson and her husband Weldon of Winchester, Mass., and Joan Gregoire of Nobleboro; one sister-in-law, Louise Jewett of Alna; one brother-in-law, Turner Gregoire of Wiscasset; and one granddaughter, Janice Nelson. She was predeceased by one brother, Allen Jewett; and one sister-in-law, Winona Gregoire. Burial is at the Alna Cemetery. (Collamore) Kindell, 57, of Bremen, died early on the morning of Wednesday, October 27 at Cove's Edge in Damariscotta. Born in Damariscotta, she was the daughter of Wilson and Bridget (McCormack) Collamore. She grew up in Bremen, attending the Bremen Grade School and later went on to graduate from Lincoln Academy in Newcastle. On April 29, 1966, she married Douglas Jack Kindell. They traveled extensively, with his job, taking them to many places and meeting many friends. Mrs. Kindell's greatest pleasures in life were cooking, her annual Christmas party, her children, friends and family. Some of her fondest memories were of the many years her children attended the Bremen Grade School, where she was a longtime volunteer. She was predeceased by her father, Wilson, December 5, 2002. Survivors include her husband and mother, both of Bremen; three daughters, Bridget Green, her hus-band Kevin Green and, granddaughters, Jennifer and Amanda Green of Wiscasset, Kyna Kindell of Bremen, and Heather Kindell-Leeman, her husband Christopher Leeman, grandson Timothy Kindell-Leeman, granddaughter Nor-ma Kindell-Leeman of New Harbor; her brother, Rex Collamore of Wiscasset; and sister, Kathleen O'Brian of Bremen. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, October 29, at St. Patrick's Church in Newcastle, with Rev. Ray Picard officiating. She was laid to rest at the Evergreen Cemetery in Bremen. Arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Strong Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Damariscotta. |
