Children Who Have Died Will Be Remembered
Paula Gibbs
A gathering for parents and family members who have experienced
the death of a child is being planned again in Wiscasset this
year by Nancy Wyman.
Nancy lost her son, Daniel Leeman, in August of 2003 when he was
killed in an ATV accident at the age of 24.
On the second Sunday of December every year, there are many
similar gatherings across the country to remember children who
have died. The observance was started by Compassionate Friends,
a national nonprofit organization established to help people
through the grief of losing a child.
In Wiscasset the remembrance will be held on December 11 at the
Wiscasset Community Center at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to
attend, and bring pictures, if they would like, of the children
they have lost. Those who would like to talk about their
children are encouraged to do so.
At 7 p.m. there will be a candle lighting ceremony, one of
hundreds nationwide, sponsored by Compassionate Friends. Nancy's
sorority, Xi Alpha Zeta, will provide refreshments afterwards.
