Fall Athletes Honored

Over 35 student athletes were recognized for their hard work this past fall season at a sports awards ceremony at the Wiscasset High School on November 9.

In addition to giving out the most valuable, most improved and coaches awards, many of the coaches bestowed other awards on their players for traits like sportsmanship, being the best defensive player or showing the most team spirit or dedication.

Matt Carlson, the school's new athletic director, also cited different athletes for special recognition.

Boys Cross Country

Boys cross country coach Bill Wilson gave the most valuable runner award to Seth Mihalik.

Adam Snell earned the coaches award and the most improved award was given to two runners, Jon Campbell and Brad Churchill. Devin Hannan was given the sportsmanship award.

Girls Cross Country

Warren Cossette, the girls cross country coach, awarded the most valuable player award to Jen Cusumano.

The coaches award went to Nori McLeod, the most improved went to Ashley Bailey, and Ashley Ferrucci was presented with the sportsmanship award.

Boys Varsity Soccer

Tim Huber was given the most improved award from boys varsity soccer coach Todd Kramley.

Stephan Bailey was awarded the sportsmanship award. Matt Hinkley won the playmaker award, Ben Matzell won the "Golden Boot" award for defense and Thomas McIntire was the rookie of the year.

A coach's son award was given to Justin Kramley.

The 12th man award went to the late Cameron Haggett, a former player who died in a car accident on July 13.

Boys J.V. Soccer

Wiscasset junior varsity soccer coach Jeff Hinderliter gave awards to five of his players.

The best all around player award was given to Nick Hinkley, the coaches award to Alex Slack and the most improved to Matt Etter.

A most dedicated award was given to Tim George while the golden boot award was presented to Josh Hudson.

Girls Varsity Soccer

Wayne Benn, the varsity girls soccer coach, gave the most improved award to Megan Nichols. Klarizza Cruz won the sportsmanship award and Marissa Hammond won the rookie of the year award.

Girls J.V. Soccer

This year's girls soccer team is coached by Mike Pinkham and his daughter, Sheena, who honored six team members.

Catherine Hendricks won the coaches award, Elsie Cowing was chosen as the most improved and Claudia Canales earned the team spirit award.

Marion Pinkham was honored as the best offensive player, Chelsea Taylor was named the best defensive player and Maeve Tischbein was given the team spirit award.

Golf

Golf coach Tim Flanagan awarded plaques to five players.

The most valuable golfer award was given to Caleb Jones, the coaches award went to Kent Herson and most improved awards went to Nick Bennett and Jim Davis. Cory Lagner won the sportsmanship award.

Athletic Director Awards

Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Matt Carlson gave five special awards to an athlete in each sport.

The boys cross country soccer Athletic Director Award went to Devin Hannan. Leah Lemont won the girls cross country award, Jessie Matzell won the award for girls soccer, Andy Hatt won for boys soccer and Juliette Jones won the award for golf.

MVC All Star Teams

Carlson announced the Mountain Valley Conference All Star team members. Girls varsity soccer player Jessie Matzell was elected to the first all star team with varsity player Matt Hinkley and golfer Caleb Jones.Ben Matzell, another varsity player, was elected to the second all star team.

Conor Walsh, a cross country runner, was recognized for placing 15th in the Mountain Valley Conference cross country championship meet.

Senior Academic all Stars

Twelve senior student athletes were honored for making the honor roll this fall season: Adam Snell, Arianna Anestis, Ashley Soule, Chelsea MacDonald, Cory Lagner, Devin Hannan, Jessie Matzell, John Hinman, Leah Lemont, Lindsey James, Mike Rogers and Ren Morse.
