Letters To The Editor

Dear Westporters:

If you were offended by my reply to Dennis Dunbar's letter to the selectmen following the town meeting, I am truly sorry. It was not intentional. It's true that I was frustrated and emotional when I wrote it, but that is not an excuse.

As a town we have a lot to accomplish, and the best way to succeed is to work together. The recent round of misunderstandings and hard feelings have not helped, and I am partly responsible.

Unfortunately I cannot redo the past, but I do promise to work with anyone who has the island's best interests in mind. Let's find the solutions with which we can all live in peace.

Letters To The Editor

Dear Editor:

There is a group out there collecting names on a petition to take "In God We Trust" off ofour money.

Well read on, this has been sent through the internet. If they can take it upon themselves to deletepart of a presidential quote, what's to keep them from getting our money changed.

Man, some people are so afraid of thisthree letter word,"God." Makes you wonder why they are so scared, if what they are saying aboutGod not existing is true.

I totally believe in God and pray everyday for thingslike this to go away.

Thank you,

Judy Greenleaf

Letters To The Editor

Dear Editor:

I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to all those who helped to make this year's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Brunswick such a success! Nearly 400 people from the area participated in the event on Sunday, October 16, raising more than $40,000 so far, and donations are still being received.

Dollars raised from Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks are used by the Society to fuel promising research, including a $720,000 research grant focusing on mammary tumors which is currently underway at Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor; to spread lifesaving breast cancer awareness messages; to advocate for policies, laws and regulations that will increase funding for research and broaden access to health care to help women prevent, detect, and treat breast cancer; and to provide valuable information and services to people facing this horrible disease.

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among American women. Sadly, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with this disease. In 2005, it will strike 1,000 Maine women, 200 of whom will be lost to the disease.

On behalf of the American Cancer Society, I would like to thank the individual walkers, team captains, businesses and organizations and the local media for their generous support, time and energy. I would especially like to thank this year's sponsors: Elmet Technologies, Mid Coast Hospital, Parkview Adventist Medical Center and WCLZ 98.9, as well as Adora Peterson at Highland Green for sponsoring the Kick-Off Breakfast, Carter Ruff for providing music the day of, and the Bowdoin College students and Girl Scout troops for all of their help at the event. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer would not be possible without their generous support.

We are indeed getting closer to making breast cancer a thing of the past, and I look forward to seeing you at Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in 2006!

Sincerely,

Donna Muto

Letters To The Editor

Dear Editor:

How absolutely deplorable that the Waterville authorities allowed white flags to be displayed on the Veteran's cemetery!!

They fought for their country and they DID NOT surrender!
