Family shares boating journey at Senior Spectrum
On Wednesday, February 7 the lunch guests at the Senior Spectrum in Damariscotta had the opportunity to view "Ice Blink," the remarkable story of Dave and Jaia Martin and their three children.
The family lived a very unconventional life afloat on a 25-foot day sailer in which they circumnavigated the globe. They shared their sail to the Arctic where they encounter new friends, icebergs and polar bears.
Their voyage tested their physical and mental limits. They learned that self-sufficiency is the key to survival and that the rewards of the world can be had with a commitment to family, a simple lifestyle and the courage to choose differently.
Dave and Jaja spent seven years sailing around the world (1988-1995) aboard their 25-foot Cal 25.
Along the way they had two children (Chris and Holly). A third (Teiga) was born aboard at the end of the voyage.
The Martin family set sail again in 1997 on their 33-footer DRIVER, and have spent time in the Bahamas, Bermuda, Iceland, the Faroes, Northern Scotland, Norway, Greenland, and Newfoundland.
They are now living and building a home in Bremen.
