Wiscasset Senior Center
Next Wednesday, February 14 folks, there's a Valentine's Party at the Senior Center and it should be a great one this year. Besides a roast sirloin dinner, done just right as always by our chef, Steve, plus a fancy dessert, there will be various prizes to be won through the luck of the draw (not too sure we'll play "spin the bottle" after dinner) - all this amidst super decorations by our super, super decorating committee. So find something red (or shades thereof), put on your best bib and tucker, take yourself together with your spouse, best friend or whoever might love a nice evening out and join the party. Same place, same price for this open-to-the-public dinner. Just make your reservations no later than noon on Monday, Feb. 12 by calling 882-8230 unless you have already. How could one not enjoy that delectable pot roast dinner last Wednesday! For New Englanders, it's one of the favorites year round and hits the spot especially on a cold evening. With no special announcements except to remind people of the first Monday and Wednesday of the month's upcoming birthday cake parties, Doc shook up the 50-50 ticket jar, asked Denise Clark (who sells them) to draw a winner… and the winner was Ellie Tracy! It is really something special when a 50-50 winner generously turns the winnings back to the Senior Center. This time it was Ellie who asked that the winnings go into our scholarship fund, and that donation is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much, Ellie. On this note, this is a good time to mention that the Senior Center has received memorial donations from friends in Newcastle and Woolwich in honor of the late Dick Dalton who always enjoyed his time spent here. Contributions to the Senior Center or the Senior Center Scholarship Fund, Inc. are much appreciated. They help defray capital improvement cost burdens on the taxpayers, and lend a hand to high school grads looking for skills in the work force, respectively. So we are really grateful and say "thank you" again. It's a bit away yet, but preliminary work has started by Senior Spectrum's Damariscotta office to hold a "Senior Health and Wellness Fair" Friday, May 25 in cooperation with the Wiscasset Community Center and Senior Center. The purpose - to keep seniors informed of health options available for having the best life as they get older. Let's face it… age 50 is the start of what is called "your senior years" …which in no way implies retirement or the rocking chair. To the contrary, good mental and physical health means many active years ahead. It is planned to have all kinds of information, exhibitors, and demonstrations pertaining to wellness. There will be guided tours and demonstrations of the facilities and programs available at our own Community Center, which serves not only Wiscasset residents, but also people living in the surrounding towns and villages. There will be door prizes, informational handouts and healthy snacks among the "give-aways" as well as entertainment. It should be a very worthwhile event that will be open to all seniors from everywhere, so mark your calendar and watch for further news. |
