Kevin Race, 46, of Woolwich, has been missing since Thursday,
September
9, just two days before he was to appear in Lincoln County Superior Court
for arraignment on four felony counts of theft. A warrant for his arrest
has been issued.
Race, the co-owner of a company called Custom Cordage in Waldoboro, was
last seen on Mt. Washington at the base of Tuckerman's Ravine a day after
he was reported missing.
According to a press release from the New Hampshire Fish and Game
Department, investigators believe Race may have gone to Mt. Washington to
end his life.
After three days of an extensive search, the New Hampshire Fish and
Game Department has called off their search. In a prepared statement, Lt.
Douglas Gralenski of the department said, "We're done everything within
reason to find Kevin. If he wished to be found, I feel confident we would
have found him."
Although the searches have been suspended, the case will remain open,
Gralenski said.
Race was indicted in August on theft allegedly occurring at the
Custom Cordage business he co-owned with David Bird. The indictments
include four counts of Class B theft by unauthorized taking of money.
Custom Cordage is a manufacturer of ropes and twines for the commercial
fishing industries businesses.
Race is well known in Sagadahoc County. He was the Republican candidate
for Sagadahoc County Commissioner in 2004, being defeated by Democrat
Crispin Connery in a close race. Connery receiving 3,759 votes and Race
receiving 3,466 votes from District 2 voters
