Mystery writing program Saturday

Wiscasset Public Library opens its first writers' program this fall with "Three Sisters in Crime." Lea Wait, Kate Flora, and Robin MacCready will help would be authors and fans to unravel the mystery of writing and publishing a mystery on Saturday, September 22 at 10 a.m.

Edgecomb author Lea Wait writes Scribner's "Shadows" antique print mystery series, in which antique print dealer Maggie Summer solves crimes by finding clues in her nineteenth century prints. Wait's first book "Shadows at the Fair " was a finalist for a "best first mystery" Agatha award. Two of her other books also won awards. "Shadows at the Coast of Maine" was a Mystery Guild Editors' Choice and "Shadows

on the Ivy," was a Mystery Guild selection and called "fresh and relevant" by The New York Times.

"Shadows at the Spring Show" brought Wait mention in Publishers Weekly. Wait is also the author of four acclaimed historical novels for children aged seven and up set in 19 th century Wiscasset: "Stopping to Home," "Seaward Born," "Wintering Well," and "Finest Kind" have all brought recognition to Lea Wait's extraordinary talent.

Maine native and recovering attorney Kate Flora is the author of 10 books, including seven Thea Kozak mysteries, the latest of which, coming in August, is "Stalking Death" and "Playing God," a police procedural set in Portland. Research for "Playing God" led to her non-fiction collaboration, "Finding Amy: A True Story of Murder in Maine," which was nominated for an Edgar award in 2007 and was a finalist for the Maine Literary Awards.

Robin MacCready, a teacher at Edgecomb Eddy School and newly published author of "Buried," has recently won the Edgar Allen Poe award for best young adult mystery. MacCready's book, "Buried," relates the story of a 17-year-old girl who buries her own needs and dreams to protect her alcoholic mother. The disappearance of her mother makes her look at herself. Touching on several difficult topics, this novel was reviewed by one source who called it "well done and recommended for both reluctant and serious readers."

Come to the program at Wiscasset Public Library to hear these three talented authors talk about their writing and publishing experiences.
