Wiscasset Senior Center

Wiscasset Senior Center
Eighteen Senior Center members went on the four day trip to Cape Cod
last week. (Unfortunately I was not able to go.) Preliminary reports have
it that they had good weather and a great time. They did the usual things like the sand dune tour at Provincetown and
the harbor cruise in Hyannis. They had time to relax and even found time
to play a bit of cribbage. Now I'm sure that cribbage was indeed the
highlight of the trip, especially for the one who won! Sally said that
many want to do something like this next year, maybe even a four or five
day cruise. Even with the 18 gone last Wednesday, there still were 67 at the
Community Dinner to enjoy the prime rib dinner. Priscilla Allen and her
friends brought in a bunch of summer flowers to decorate the tables.
Diners were encouraged to take the flowers home but had to leave the
vases. Coffee was available as usual but sometimes there was a wait while
a new pot brewed. Phil was missed as he always has enough coffee brewed so
that there is no waiting. Mim jumped between helping in the kitchen to
making coffee and assured me that he was competent at both jobs. There are several events and trips coming up in the next two months.
The monthly newsletter will contain the list and additional information
and we will continue to mention each event and trip in this newspaper
column. The annual Member Dinner will be held on Sunday, October 14. This
dinner is open to all members and is free but you are asked to make a
reservation by Monday, October 8. The whole idea is to bring all members
together at the conclusion of the yearly membership drive to say "thank
you" for supporting the Senior Center. Ted has said that he has had requests to bring back the membership
meetings. Perhaps we can have a meeting at the Member Dinner. It would be
a good time to have pie and coffee and discuss the future of the Senior
Center. Only members will be there, and we've all paid our dues, so it
does seem appropriate. This will give everyone a chance to discuss options
and give Ted a chance to learn what members want and expect from their
Senior Center. At one time the Senior Center membership was small enough that business
could be transacted at a general meeting. But now business is handled at
the Trustee meetings and information is disseminated by the newsletter,
newspaper column, and announcements at events. Member meetings were
discontinued after attendance at the meetings dropped and few, if any,
questions were asked. Betty McInnis from Bath won the 50-50 on Wednesday. Betty's daughter is
Marcia Munsey's daughter-in-law. The cribbage tournament winners on
Tuesday, Sept. 18, were Ann Merry first, Barbara Cromwell second, Gail
Thayer got low score and Jean Lannan and Lewis Vigneault tied for the high
hand. On Thursday, 9/20, Hal Thayer won all games and therefore took first
prize. Hal also had the high hand all by himself for a perfect day. Jim
Black lost only one game by five and was second; Barbara Farrar got the
low score. Activities for Next Week: (Reservations please! Call 882-8230 at least 2 days in advance for meal
