Tell It To George
Tell It To George is a collection of thoughts from here and away, from
people who want to get their two cents worth in, without using their
names.
Hey Wiscasset, the guy from North Palm Beach who visited the Coal
Gasification Plant in Holland is full of hot air like the balloon in his
picture.
I have been to Holland many times. The canals are heavily polluted, the
area were the plant is has lots of heavy industry and the air quality,
except near the North Sea, is terrible. If you don't believe me, use
Google Earth and compare the Holland plant site to the Wiscasset area.
You will get some idea of what I am talking about. Makes me wonder how
much time this guy from North Palm Beach has spent in Maine. If he lived
here, he would know the difference.
I was relieved to see John Blagdon get up at last week's selectmen's
meeting when people were starting to get rude - talking out of order,
booing, etc. John reminded everyone that we're all adults, and we should
behave like adults.
Blind leading the blind? At last week's Selectmen's meeting, the people
were told the following by Selectmen Bill Curtis: "I don't have the
answers to these questions and neither do you."
Let me get this straight. After informing the public that they
themselves are ignorant, the Selectmen informed the public that the public
is ignorant.
Meanwhile, Scott Houldin and Joe Cotter, the officers of Twin Rivers
Energy, who supposedly have the answers (if we just vote yes in November
they might tell us the answers) did not bother to show up. Makes sense to
me. Maybe this is why Wiscasset is "unique."
I find it so refreshing that our town manager calls everyone, "Ladies
and Gentlemen." He is truly a gentle man.
Thank God, our self appointed saviors are back! The Stewards of the
Sheepscot are here to save us from ourselves. I thought the group was
disbanded. Yet they've miraculously risen from the dead to fight the
coal-gas plant.
Maybe they can answer a few questions for me... Where were you when
Bintliff built the bypass in the water… or is that a pier? Where
were you when someone illegally dumped fill in the harbor? Did the
cocktail party funds dry up and you needed another fund-raiser?
I love big fines for stupid things people do, so I was happy to hear
the Wiscasset selectmen are recommending the fine for parking in front of
a fire hydrant be raised from the pathetic $5 parking fee (you can hardly
call it a
fine
) to $100. Yes! Great idea, Lieutenant John Allen.
To the small group of blowhards fighting the power plant (mostly from
out of town or was it from away?) I think your stalling tactics are a
waste of time. Everyone I talk to wants to speed things up and get
going. Good jobs, cheaper electricity, clean fuel and yes our golden goose
returns. Why should we be ashamed of that? Just because you say the sky is
falling doesn't make it true. You say it's bad, yet I'm reading and
hearing you're all wet and just trying to scare people. I for one look
forward to all this plant will do for Wiscasset - and yes for what it will
bring to our neighbors too. When was the last time any of you paid for
fire or ambulance services? You can thank Maine Yankee and Wiscasset. Vote
Yes in November!
