Historic New England announces special holiday open hours for Castle
Tucker in Wiscasset. Castle Tucker will be open on Columbus Day, Monday,
October 8 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tours will leave on the hour, with the
last tour leaving at 4 p.m.
Castle Tucker, built in 1807 and celebrating its two hundredth
anniversary this year, presents the story of a Victorian family in the
port of Wiscasset from the nineteenth through the early twentieth
centuries. The world in which the Tuckers lived is seen not through a
stiff, formal collection but through their stories and as the family lived
their lives in this large, imposing Regency style home.
Visitors can see newly restored objects throughout the house, including
furniture recently returned to the house after being cleaned and repaired
by Historic New England's expert conservators. Lived in by members of the
same family from 1858 until after the turn of the 21
st
century, Castle Tucker offers visitors a view through time of Maine and
American history seen through the everyday life and travails of one
family. Experience the charm of this unique Wiscasset mansion during
special autumn holiday hours.
Castle Tucker is open five days a week, Wednesday - Sunday, June 1 -
through October 15, with the first tour of the day beginning at 11 a.m.
and the last tour at 4 p.m. The house is also available for group or
special tours. Call 882-7169 to make arrangements.
Historic New England is the oldest, largest and most comprehensive
