Paul and I have been busy doing some "fall cleaning" which is very much like spring cleaning except it was designed specifically for us procrastinators! We had to get the basement and garage cleaned out in time to store some winter wood. We've been busily cutting and stacking firewood like squirrels storing their winter fare.
Ben and Sandra Crehore enjoyed the company of their niece, Beth Ried and her husband, Ron, who were visiting from Colorado. Next, they were host for a week to their good friends, the Krisaks, from Connecticut. They had a very busy two weeks but what wonderful weather they enjoyed.
The weather couldn't have been more perfect for the Wright Property Committee painting party which was held on Saturday. Mary Ellen Barnes, Donna Curry, Mikki Smith, and Sandy and David Besecker put a final coat of paint over the trim we had primed earlier. I understand there was a lot of teamwork between the tall and short folks as well as the laymen and professionals so it all went rather smoothly, and they had a good time to boot.
A special thank you goes to Richard DeVries who cleaned out the storage shed there and made trips to the dump. If you've never seen this man work, you're missing out on something special. It's kind of like watching Superman meet Spiderman. He scares me with some of his roof climbing antics one minute, then he's moving at the speed of a locomotive the next.
On Saturday, October 6, the Human Resource Committee is sponsoring an October Fest Sing-a-Long with Georgia Sledge at the Town Office at 2 p.m. There will be refreshments. All Westport Island residents are welcome. Please contact Cyndy Lewis if you need a ride at 882-4753.
The great weather held out for our family gathering to say goodbye to our much beloved grandmother, mother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Jennie Cromwell. It was a sad occasion filled with happy memories of a lifetime of love.
We'd like to extend our sympathy to Sarah Hodgdon, her daughters, Ann and Carol and all of their family members in the loss of Ann's son, Stephen. We hope you'll all take some comfort knowing your friends and neighbors are praying for your peace of mind.
A reminder: the selectmen have moved their meetings from Wednesday evenings to Monday evenings to better accommodate Jack's tight schedule. It is still held beginning at 7 p.m. at the Town Office.
