Kiwanis Halloween train rides again
Gordon Page
Rockland? For the second year in a row, the Kiwanis Club of
Rockland will work together with the Maine Eastern Railroad to run
Halloween trains on October 27 and 28.
The Boo-Choo-Choo Express will operate under a special schedule twice a
day on that Saturday and Sunday, for a total of four round trips from
Rockland to Boo-Choo Junction. The regular schedule will be interrupted
for these trains.
The Boo-Choo-Choo Express, decorated for the event, will offer
storytelling, spooky characters, prizes for best costume, and a special
souvenir ticket.
All passengers are encouraged to wear costumes and a veil of
humor. Passengers without costumes may be asked to make scary faces for
the duration of the trip, which is expected to last 75 minutes.
Kiwanis president Keith Wass said that the board of directors of
the Kiwanis Club voted to participate in this event again because of the
success from last year, when Maine Eastern contributed a portion of the
ticket revenue back to Kiwanis. The club provided the costumed actors.
Wass said that members enjoyed performing as much as they did, raising
money for charity.
Again this year, a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales of
the Boo-Choo-Choo Express will be donated to Kiwanis. Wass said
Maine Eastern has been very supportive of Kiwanis, a worldwide
organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and
one community at a time.
