John R. Gallagher, Jr., 85, of Edgecomb, died at his residence on Tuesday, Oct. 2.

Born December 31, 1921 in Bath, he was a son of John R. Gallagher, Sr. and Ruth Morse Gallagher.

For 45 years he worked at Bath Iron Works, 26 of them as leading man.

Mr. Gallagher was a member of the Huntoon Hill Grange, Lincoln Pomona, and Maine State Grange. He was a life member of Polar Star Lodge #114 of Bath since 1945.

He enjoyed his animals, going to yard sales, and going out to eat.

He was predeceased by his wife, Florence Light Gallagher; and by a brother, Robert Gallagher.

Survivors include two sons, John R. Gallagher III of Arizona, and Joseph Gallagher of Damariscotta; two daughters, Eleanor Likes of Lynnwood, Wash. and Jany Wasdin of 29 Palms, Calif.; two sisters, Ruth Dodge of Bowdoinham and Helen Goff of Muskogee, Oklahoma.

The funeral service was held Friday, October 5 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, with Rev. Lisa M. Burger officiating. Burial followed in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset.
