Wiscasset Senior Center
Once again we had a good crowd at last Wednesday's Community Dinner. Steve served his famous roast stuffed pork loin, scalloped potatoes and baked apples. All this food is cooked up fresh. The scalloped potatoes do not come out of a box, nor are the apples all prepared in some factory. Steve makes his own stuffing for the pork loin too. It's hard to beat a meal that is prepared from fresh, just purchased, ingredients. I visited Steve last Wednesday afternoon while he was preparing the dinner. He was peeling and coring fresh apples for baking. He had forgotten to bring along his own apple corer but was able to borrow one from a Senior Center member. However, even if he had not been able to borrow one, he still would have peeled and cored the apples by hand. We are indeed privileged to have a chef that believes in using fresh ingredients and doing the job the right way. Steve also will make an alternate entrée for anyone not liking the one on the menu. This Wednesday the entrée is roast lamb. By the time you read this, the meal will have been served but Steve knows that not everyone likes lamb so he has planned to provide an additional item for those folks. Most weeks, Steve will not prepare another entrée unless asked, but if ever there is something on the menu that you don't like, don't stay away, just tell Steve you'd appreciate something else. Of course, please give him some advance warning to be able to make an alternative for you and it will have to be something he has on hand. The Trustees met in special session last Monday to consider the resignation of David Nichols. The Trustees voted to accept with regret his resignation. David has made significant contributions in time and effort over the years in ensuring the success of the Wiscasset Senior Center. The Trustees hope he will continue to help out as best he can. |
