Tell It To George
Tell It To George is a collection of thoughts from here and away, from
people who want to get their two cents worth in, without using their
names.
The sky is falling, the sky is falling, said Chicken Little…
remember that? There are guys running around everywhere telling us not to
support the power plant because it will cause global warming, it will
kill fish, it will cause the next big bang and then "poof" we're outta
here.
Awfully nice of them to save us poor little rednecks from ourselves.
Give me a break.
My son's an engineer that had to move out of state for a job. He's been
sending me quite a bit of independent information to read. Bottom line,
these anti-development people are all wet. And I bet they know it. Once
again, it comes down to the rich vocal minority wanting to keep Maine
"Vacationland" forever because they made their money somewhere else.
I'd like my son to be able to return to his home state. I'd like to
spend more than the holidays with my grandchildren. I'd like my wife and I
to keep the services in town we've had for decades. I'd like us to stay
in the home where we raised our kids and not be taxed to death. I'm voting
yes for the power plant on November 6, and I hope the rest of you see
through all the bull flying around and vote yes too.
Wrong place to park
At last week's Wiscasset town meeting, we noticed a black Jeep Cherokee
with a red and white PRESS sticker on the window parked in between the
handicapped parking spots which is supposed to be left open. Shame on that
person.
Editor's Note: no one at this newspaper drives a Jeep
Cherokee.
How many of you read the letter from the state development office in
last week's paper? It was congratulating Edgecomb and Roger Bintliff for
all the development that's going on there on Davis Island.
"Current and future developments on Davis Island could make Edgecomb
the new gateway to the Boothbay-Damariscotta region," the letter said.
Let's see - Wiscasset, once seen as the leader in area towns, blew over
$350,000 on some out-of-town economic development "consultants" who I hear
are no longer in business.
Funny, I don't remember Edgecomb hiring any consultants, but they seem
to be doing just fine.
And then, of course, Wiscasset hired a director of economic
development, who promised to do great things, and when he didn't, we
promoted him to town manager.
Wiscasset, the Wastingest Village in Maine.
