Wiscasset Senior Center
The annual member dinner last Sunday was a great success. There were 94
members in attendance. This free dinner is for the benefit of all members
who have taken out membership or who have renewed their membership for
another year. It lets all members come together over dinner to celebrate
all we have accomplished. Sally, our temporary Activities chairperson,
made up a list of all the things the Senior Center has been involved with
over this past year. Every member should take great pride in what we have
done and the potential we have to do even more. The Member dinner started off with the salute to the flag followed by
the blessing by Tony. A great crew set up the room which included real
linen tablecloths. Jo Johnson did the table centerpieces. The dinner
consisted of roast turkey, mashed potatoes, squash, peas and onions.
Everything was just the best. This was just as we've come to expect from
our chef Steve White. Then there were the desserts. All the pies were made
by members including the 24 inch diameter apple pie made by Patty. There
was blueberry, chocolate crème, lemon, lime, pecan, raspberry, pumpkin and
others along with ice cream or whipped topping for an additional topping.
There were so many pies that we were able to sell off the remaining
slices. Our chef has suggested that a holding/cooking cabinet would make
preparing a meal for a large group easier and improve our ability to
always have the freshest, hottest and "just made" food. This will cost us
several thousands of dollars and we started to raise the funds Sunday by
asking for donations. The Trustees were amazed that $191.75 was donated
during that dinner. The 50-50 winner, Mim Welch, donated his winnings to
the project. After dinner Ted introduced all the Trustees including the newest
Trustee Carolann Rines. As promised, the member meeting was short with
most of the time spent thanking those who had made this day so
special. It was great to see Larry Clark come walking in for lunch last
Thursday. Larry said he was feeling just about normal again. He said the
doctors have told him that they got all the cancer. I think that good
ending stories like this let us all think about the joys of life we've all
experienced during our lives. It was also good to have Larry back to do the bingo calling. We've
gotten use to the electronic marvels of using a laptop to generate the
bingo numbers. I will also add that it is good to have Larry take back the
Treasurer's job. It takes a good amount of time each week to handle the
financial affairs of the Senior Center and Larry does a tremendous job.
Good to have you back Larry. Saturday, October 27, is the Swing Dance presented by the Community
Center and Senior Center and sponsored by the Gardiner Savings Bank. Music
will be performed by the Bath Municipal Band. This dance is open to
everyone and is only $8 per person. Swing on over that evening and enjoy
some great live music. Dot Speed won the 50-50 on Wednesday. The cribbage tournament winners
on Tuesday, Oct. 9, were Keith Bridgham first, Arlene Steen second,
Barbara Farrar got low score and Blanche Johnson and Barbara Cromwell tied
for the high hand. On Thursday, Oct. 11, Ken Colby was first, Jane LaBreck

hand. Activities for next week: (Reservations please! Call 882-8230 at least two days in advance for
