A chill is in the air. Typical of this time of year, it's a chilly start and a chilly ending with a rather pleasant day in between. Many people are firing up their woodstoves, wood furnaces and fireplaces. Please check to make sure your chimney is clean before you begin using them on a regular basis.

With all of the media coverage of the proposed coal gasification plant in Wiscasset, it's likely most of you have heard at least some pros and cons on the issue. In an attempt to gather data on how most people are feeling about this subject as well as to offer them a chance to ask questions, the Westport Island Board of Selectmen will be mailing out a survey to Island residents. They simply want to give everyone an opportunity to express their thoughts about what's going on. The more data we gather, the better we will be able to represent our citizens. Please take a moment to complete the survey and mail it back as soon as possible. The selectmen will greatly appreciate your efforts.

Been in the store lately? I was impressed with how much their line of groceries has grown. You can ask for some fresh hamburger, hot dogs, or even some of the deli meats they carry. It helps to call ahead so they can have it ready for you. On his last trip home, Caleb wanted tacos on a whim and we were able to get all of the ingredients right here on Westport!
