Westport Island

It's nearing the end of October and Halloween night will soon be upon us. Please remember to drive extra carefully next Wednesday evening, as there are bound to be ghosts and goblins wandering the neighborhood. The following months of November and December are bound to fly by given all of the holiday prep, shopping, cooking and visiting that goes on during this time of year.

There are a couple of events happening here on Westport during this time. I will give them a mention this week and be sure to remind you as the days grow closer. Make sure you put them on your calendar; after all, joining in on island events is what helps build a sense of community.

The Human Resource Committee will be preparing to help island families and residents through these holidays, so keep them in mind as you think of making donations.

The Holiday Faire will be held at the Squire Tarbox Inn again this year. The date will be Saturday, December 8. Stay tuned for more details or call Carole Dunbar at 882-8143.

The following day, Sunday, December 9, is the Christmas program at the Westport Community Church. If you are interested in joining the Christmas Choir, please place the following information from Georgia Sledge on your calendar.

All are welcome and you don't need to try out. Just join us for rehearsals. They are held at the town office on Sundays, November 11, 18, 25, and December 2 at 5 p.m. The dress rehearsal will be on Sunday, December 9 at 1 p.m. at the church (beside the Old Town Hall) and the service will be the same date at 7 p.m. Please call Georgia Sledge at 882-7645 if you have any questions. Come, sing NOEL!

If you have any news or activities you'd like listed in this column, please call me at 882-9032, or e-mail me at pbonyun@gwi.net .
