Writer's series wraps up Saturday

Wiscasset Public Library is pleased to feature Ronald Conant on Saturday, October 27 at 10 a.m. for the final week of the Writers' Programs series.

Conant began writing fiction and poetry when he retired from his position as an inner city public school principal in 2001.  His subjects include children and adults and circumstances impacting on them and ecology, nature and the earth.  He wrote student curriculum and teacher training materials during his career in public education.

Conant began work selling newspapers, part-time, six days a week, while in elementary school on the streets of Dorchester, Mass., where he grew up.  His professional career ranged from the fields of mental health, vocational rehabilitation, special and mainstream public education and college teaching. 

He completed his Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Counseling at the University of Pittsburgh. He retired from the Pittsburgh Public Schools as an elementary school principal.  He has been active in social and community programs, youth hockey, ecology and professional associations.  He is a member of the C.G. Jung Center in Brunswick; the Episcopal Diocese of Maine Committee on Indian Relations; and the Rising Tide Organic Food Cooperative in Damariscotta.
