In September Troop 201 welcomed its newest member, Drew Lucas of
Wiscasset. Drew jumped in with both feet and is extremely
enthusiastic.
The troop went camping down at Camp Knickerbocker in Boothbay in
September. The boys spent the weekend working on their camping and cooking
skills under the watchful eyes of Bob Marcus and Tom Fogarty. By the end
of the weekend, the boys had completedmost of their cooking and cooking
requirements for Second and First Class rank. Drew was deemed the troop's
new "Good Luck Charm" as this was the first campout in almost a year that
it did not rain! I'll give the boys in the troop credit, with all the
rain we have seen, their spirits have not been dampened.
The entire troop attended the Maine Jamboree on October 19 through 21
at the Oxford Fairgrounds. Troops from all over the Pine Tree Council
gathered to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Scouting in England. There
were displays and demonstrations from the National Guard, the US Army and
the Maine State Police.
The boys especially enjoyed the climbing wall and laser shooting
range. There was also a demonstration of the State Police Bomb Squad
Robot! The evening was topped off by a laser light show and fireworks.
They had so much fun they almost forgot the drenching downpour from the
night before.
This month the troop is working on their First Aid requirements. Each
week they are reviewing a section of the requirements. They will put
their knowledge to the test in mid-November when they attend a campout
where they will be exposed to mock accidents and need to determine the
proper response.
Boy Scout Troop 201 and Cub Scout Pack 201 are making a combined effort
to fight hunger in our community.Shopping bags were hung on mail boxes
and door knobs this weekend by the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts in Wiscasset
and surrounding towns.
We hope everyone will give generously and place the bags where they
were originally hung for pick-up next Saturday, November 3 before 10 a.m.
If you did not receive a bag, but would like to donate some non-perishable
food items, you may call Bob Marcus (Wiscasset) at 882-9524, Lincoln
Richardson (Westport) at 882-9615 or Laura Bosio (Edgecomb) at 633-7278 to
arrange for your items to be picked up.
All food collected will be donated to the St. Phillips Church Food
Pantry in Wiscasset.Special thanks to Shaw's in Bath for donating the
bags and all the boys and there parents for taking the time to complete
this worthwhile community service project.
