Hey get up, get out, and get the bargains!
Paula Gibbs
Here we go again, shoppers - it's the annual Early Riser Sale in Wiscasset on Saturday, November 10.
Merchants will be offering great discounts if you're willing to get up at the crack of dawn.
At the Wiscasset Old General Store, next to Red's Eats at the bottom of Main Street, shoppers will get a whopping 30 percent off from 6 to 8 a.m. on nearly everything except boat kits, sales items, paint, beer, wine and books.
For those who can't make it that early, there will still be 25 percent off, with the exception of the above items, from 8 to 9 a.m. The store features Maine made items, jewelry, candles, kitchen and bath accessories, cards, holiday decorations and lots more. There are three levels to explore at the store, which has been in business, by the way, for over 150 years.
Just a few doors up on Water Street, number 55, is Debra Elizabeth's, where shoppers can enjoy a 20 percent discount from 6 to 8 a.m. and a 15 percent discount from 8 to 10 a.m. This shop, in case you haven't visited yet, used to be on Fort Hill Street, and features "finery for self and home."
The Carl M.P. Larrabee Insurance Agency encourages shoppers to "Have a great time at the Early Riser Sale," while Roy Farmer Associates says, "Shop Till You Drop!"
Wine lovers will be happy to know they can get 20 percent off a case of wine and everything in the store except coffee and baked items from 6 to 7 a.m. at Treat's, 80 Main Street. From 7 to 8 a.m. it's 15 percent off, and from 8 to 9 a.m. it's 10 percent off.
Treat's is a specialty store that offers wine, cheese, coffee, sweets, specialty foods, imported beer, fresh bread, home baked goods, great conversation, and catering.
Across the street, you can duck into Blooms of Wiscasset where you will be treated to light refreshments and receive 30 percent off from 6 to 7 a.m., 20 percent off from 7 to 8 a.m., and 15 percent off from 8 to 9 a.m. - everything that is, except the tulip special, which is $16.99 a bunch. You can also order floral turkey gobblers and receive a 15 percent discount with full payment.
Back across the street again, stop in at 106 Main, at Sweet Woodruff, a shop that mixes the new with the old. Shoppers will receive 20 percent off from 6 to 8 a.m. on everything except antiques. And, starting at 8 a.m. until closing, 10 percent off everything, including antiques.
If you've not visited "Smitten," here's another great Main Street store that offers homeowners just what they need to turn a boring house into a warm, cozy and stylish abode. From 6 to 8 a.m., shoppers will receive 25 percent off, and from 8 to 10 a.m., 15 percent off.
Right next door you will find "Rock Paper Scissors," another unique boutique that offers lots of whimsical cool stuff for kids, gifts, or that wonderful impulse buy.
One of Wiscasset's newest businesses, Green Gourmet Market and Deli, has some wonderful surprises for shoppers who arrive early. Green Gourmet opened just a few weeks ago in the building on Route 1 where Tate's used to be located.
Everyone's heard of "Big Al's Super Values" on Route 1 in Wiscasset, and Saturday the store will be offering super, super values - 25 percent off everything in the store from 6 to 9 a.m. And don't forget the free coffee and free gift for all shoppers, an every day event at the store. Big Al's is just two miles south of the village.
Also on Route 1, Ames Supply, ably run by the brothers Averill (Steve, Jeff, and Wayne) will give you 10 percent off everything in the store from 6 to 9 a.m., except for those items already on sale. So that means paint, hardware, sporting goods, stuff for animals, including dogs, cats, horses, birds (even your iguana) and lots of way cool stuff for your house, barn, camp and car.
Out of cash? Stop in at The First, 39 Gardiner Road, where the automatic teller machine is working 24 hours a day to make sure you don't miss out on that special bargain.
Across the bridge into Edgecomb, Anderson Farms is offering a huge 60 percent off on all gifts and homewares - all day! The store will give 50 percent off "virtually all store and plant items," with some exceptions, and 30 percent off all spring bulbs. And, two workshops on harvest centerpieces will take place at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Lori's Island Convenience Store wants to remind shoppers that the Westport Island store offers daily specials, including a Hunter's Breakfast served at 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, and homemade baked beans Saturday night. The store is on the Main Road to the island, just after the bridge on the left coming from Wiscasset. |
