Westport Island mill rate 5.3
Charlotte Boynton
Westport Island selectmen set the town's 2007-2008 mill rate at $5.30
per $1,000 valuation at their meeting Monday evening. This is a drop from
last year's mill rate of $5.80.
The total appropriation for the town is $1.4 million. County taxes are
$212,000; town expenses, $246,000; and education $940,000.
The town's total real estate valuation is just over $270 million, and
the taxable personal property valuation is $1.6 million.
In other business, the selectmen received a bill from Attorney James
Katsiaficas for over $2,000 to answer the complaint brought by Michael
Stern, Paul Nergaard, and E. Davies Allan.
The three residents are asking the court to overturn the decision of
the town's planning board's approval of the Ferry Landing Boat launching
project.
Allan, Stern and Nergaard also asked that the town's board of appeals
overturn the planning board's decision. The board of appeals also denied
their request. It was after that denial that the three residents took the
issue to superior court for an appeal.
The selectmen appointed Linda Davis as Deputy Town Clerk, and Donna
Gregory to a two-year appointment on the board of appeals.
