A Wiscasset man is recovering in a Massachusetts hospital with severe facial injuries after he shot himself on November 7 at his Old Ferry Road home.

According to police, Jeffrey Weatherbee, 43, is expected to recover, but he may lose his sight. Police were first called to the home about 10 p.m. after an unidentified woman who lives in the home dialed 911, saying Weatherbee was chasing her with a gun and threatening to shoot her. While she was talking to the 911 dispatcher, Weatherbee shot himself, police said.

Both the Wiscasset Ambulance Service and Life Flight responded. Weatherbee was air lifted to Central Maine Medical Center and later transported to Mass General Hospital in Boston.

Lieutenant John Allen of the Wiscasset Police Department investigated the shooting.
