Group to lobby for `no bypass' traffic solution

Frank Risell of Wiscasset and Morrison Bonpasse of Newcastle have announced the formation of a regional organization "to promote non-bypass solutions to Wiscasset seasonal traffic." The state's Department of Transportation recently issued a draft Environmental Impact Statement for several bypass routes, and is holding regional meetings for input on those routes.

In a press release issued this week, the two men wrote, "Sensing that the Maine Department of Transportation is looking only at a bypass as the solution to Wiscasset's seasonal traffic problem, a new regional organization is being formed to promote other solutions."

There will be an organizational meeting on Tuesday, December 11 at a location to be announced.

"Organizers hope to assemble a broad local, regional, and state coalition of people and organizations to ensure environmentally sensible solutions," the release said.

For more information, contact Bonpass at 586-6078 or Risell at 882-9781.
