Wiscasset Senior Center
You will notice in the December Senior Center Newsletter we will be
doing some things differently. Our chef's son, Spencer, age 17, is
scheduled to have back surgery at a special hospital located on Long
Island, N.Y. on Thursday, December 13. Spencer has to be there a few days
ahead of time for more tests. Therefore our chef, Steve White, will be
gone that week and probably the following week. Steve will make up items
for the lunches on December 10, 13, 17 and 20. On Wednesday, December 12
we will be having a Pot Luck dinner and on Wednesday December 19 we will
have a dinner, but it will not be prime rib. Present plans are for Steve's son, Morgan, to do the final preparation
of the meals. Morgan is quite comfortable in the kitchen and is an
accomplished chef in his own right. The Pot Luck dinner will help reduce
the problem of creating a meal on a Wednesday evening and provide an
opportunity for everyone to sample a variety of dishes made by their
fellow dinners. By keeping the meals going we will be able to continue
paying Steve during his absence. Your attendance at these meals will help
the Senior Center meet its obligations and also support our chef during
these difficult times. The week of December 17 we will have "Chef's Choice" for entrees but we
will not do the usual prime rib dinner. Steve may even be back sometime
that week depending on Spencer's recovery. The surgery is not simple but
hopefully Spencer will fully recover and the problems that have plagued
him the last few years will be eliminated. Steve has said that he has
obtained space on a medical flight from New York to Portland and donated
ambulance service from Portland to his home for Spencer once he has
recovered enough to travel. It is expected that Spencer will be a bit
uncomfortable for awhile and the special arrangements to get home will
make things a lot easier for everyone. Steve wants to thank everyone for their concern, sympathy and help over
the past few years. Our prayers are with Spencer and his family. Between November 15 and December 31 each year you have an opportunity
to change your Medicare Supplement Plan and/or your Medicare Prescription
Drug Plan. If you are unhappy with either, now is the time to do
something. If you are happy with your current Supplement Plan you probably
won't find a better deal but no matter what you think of your Prescription
Plan you might be surprised at how much you could save by changing. Go to www.medi
care.gov
and you will find an updated and much improved search and compare program.
This will give you many different choices especially if you take a lot of
prescription drugs. You can save your prescription list so you don't have
to decide right then and there but after you've made up your mind you can
make the change right there and you won't have to go to the insurance
companies to make the change. Before you make a change be sure to consider
all the info that's available. Don't just pick the one with the lowest
yearly expected cost. Look at everything. If in doubt ask a family member
or your pharmacist for advice. The cribbage tournament winners on Tuesday, Nov. 20, were Lewis
Vigneault first, Pauline Davis second, Larry Roy got low score and Ken
Colby had the high hand. On Friday, Nov. 23, Larry Roy was first, Hal
Thayer second, Pauline Davis got low score and Penny Parsons and Larry Roy
tied for the high hand. Activities for next week
