Tell It To George
Tell It To George is a collection of thoughts from here and away, from
people who want to get their two cents worth in, without using their
names.
I've been living in Wiscasset for way past 20 years, and it is getting
kind of stale here.
I'm really disappointed that we've been prevented from an opportunity
to change our lives and the way things are done.
I'm referring to the opposition to the Point East plan to build the
coal gasification plant that would have altered our town for the better.
The outcry from the lobstermen, clammers, wormers was just a bunch of
whiners who want to cling to the old traditions instead of embracing
change. It is time for them to move and get real jobs - the kind this
plant and Point East promised. The other folks who opposed this plant just
ought to move away where they can keep their "clean air and water."
Hopefully Point East won't give up its efforts to change us.
I also look forward to the continued progress at the Mason Station
Maritime Village, another forward thinking project by Point East.
But once again, there are complainers arguing that things aren't moving
ahead. Scott and National RE/sources know what they are doing. They didn't
get to be wealthy by not doing things. They are just planning for the
long-term. Can we please stop hearing how Bintliff's got so far ahead of
them so fast? He had everything handed to him, and Point East had many
more hurdles like environmental cleanup, and building demolition to deal
with. Just give Point East time, there will be opportunities for your
children in housekeeping for the many condos and landscape maintenance and
other jobs that will be created. Many of us are looking more into the
future versus those who just want some quick tax relief. They promised
great things and they will deliver soon.
Many of us look forward to new ideas from Point East. They live and
work in progressive states and can certainly bring change to us here in
Maine. Perhaps we can make their visions a reality.

Your "story" in last week's issue about Republicans "galvanizing" for
Collins and Summers written by Diane Rundlett [Randlett] was nothing more
than an ad for the Republican party.
Wow, what a shock when I read in last week's paper that the Wiscasset
teachers get 100 percent of the health insurance paid for by the town.
That is simply outrageous and I don't know anyone in business that can
afford to pay all of it anymore. Plus, those guys get 14 or 15 weeks
vacation every year, and most of us get a measly one or two. They should
know that they are very lucky to get all that time off and not have to pay
anything for their health insurance.
