Tourmaline necklace to be raffled at Wiscasset Public Library
Pamela Dunning
Submitted By Pamela Dunning
Wiscasset Public Library is raffling a one-of-a-kind necklace that is
designed and crafted by a local artist. The necklace is comprised entirely
of natural tourmaline, in colors of pink, green, black, and mixed tones,
which has been tumbled and polished to a high luster. The center stone is
tumbled and polished natural black tourmaline.
The center stone is highlighted by two brushed 14 kt yellow gold beads.
The tourmaline is strung by hand on silk and knotted, and the strand is
finished with 14 kt yellow gold bead ends and a 14 kt yellow gold safety
clasp. The retail value of the piece is approximately $300
The artist, Margaret Stern, has been a resident of Westport Island for
more than a decade. She has been designing jewelry in natural
semi-precious stones, including but not limited to tourmaline, lapis,
malachite, pearls, amethyst, carnelian, onyx, and jasper for approximately
20 years.
The artist uses only 14 kt gold, platinum, and sterling silver
(including agrentium sterling) in her work, and designs one- of-a-kind
commissioned pieces for discerning jewelry collectors. She exhibits and
sells her jewelry seasonally at a studio in Pennsylvania and at Westport
Island's annual Christmas Faire. The artist is also engaged in the
practice of regulatory, administrative and environmental law, which is her
"day job".
Tickets are available at the Wiscasset Public Library for $5 each or a
book of 6 for $25. The drawing will be held on Thursday, December 20. This
is a wonderful piece of jewelry to wear or to give as a gift for
Christmas. Don't miss your chance to own this beautiful work of art. Come
in to see the necklace and buy your tickets today.
