Head Tide calendar shows days of old in Alna
The Head Tide Church in Alna celebrates its 170 th Anniversary next year, and in anticipation of this event, the Friends of the Head Tide Church have put together a wonderful 2008 Calendar depicting historic photos of the region. Among them is this photo of Maude Peaslee and her husband Ernest Reed, holding their dog Bingo.
The calendars are now sold at the following locations: The Alna Store, the Alna Town Hall, Erskine Hall (on Food Sale Saturdays), Ames Supply, Sarah's Café, Wiscasset Hardware, Rising Tide, Louis Doe Hardware. To request a calendar by mail, contact Honora Jordan at 586-5384, or hjordan@tidewater.net . Or by mail: P.O. Box 525, Alna, ME 04535.
All proceeds go toward restoring and maintaining the Head Tide Church, built in 1838. The Friends' is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to keeping the Church - which is now belongs to the Town of Alna and is no longer used for religious purposes - painted and repaired. The steeple has just been painted this past October. Among their current projects are to paint the inside, and to restore the chandelier. |
