We had a good crowd at last Wednesday's Community Dinner. During the announcements, Ted extended condolences to the family of Marion Chubbuck who passed away recently. Many of the family were at the dinner and it was good to see them as they gathered that week to celebrate the life of Marion.

December birthdays were celebrated. At first there appeared to be no birthday people in attendance but a few reluctant ones did finally stand, get the piece of cake with a candle and be the subject of a rousing rendition of "Happy Birthday."

Bingo is played after lunch on every Thursday and after dinner on the first Wednesday of the month. It is played for the fun of the game with nominal prizes. Last Wednesday I won a game and the last game which is Black-Out. I will attest to the fact that the game is a lot more fun when you win but even if you don't, it's an enjoyable way to spend an hour or so and everyone is welcome.

The 5th Annual Breakfast with Santa comes up this Saturday, December 15. This annual breakfast is sponsored by the Community Center and Senior Center and any profits are split evenly between the two Centers. However this is not a fund raiser as such. It is a time for children and grandchildren and all those who are young at heart.

The cost is only $4 per person over 12 and $2 for children 12 or under. The breakfast includes eggs, ham, homefries, toast, juice and coffee. The dining room is open from 8 to 10 a.m. and rumor has it that Santa plans to stop in for breakfast about 8:45 a.m.

Wasn't that first snow storm of the season on Monday 12/3 neat? It was good to get the first snow, treacherous driving and cancellations in before the last of the snowbirds left for warmer states. I'm sure they appreciated it. The snow also got rid of a lot of jobs that I had on my to-do list. I still had some leaves to rake, final clean up of the garden, putting winter mulch around my roses and some perennials, etc. Now I can't do those jobs so I was able to cross them off the list. Then there was the job of telling everyone what the conditions would be that would cause the Senior Center not to serve a meal. I didn't get a chance to do that before we had our first cancellation.

OK, so here's the rule as to what happens to the lunches and dinners if the weather is bad. Meals are canceled if the Community Center is closed. That's it. We will always try to serve the meal if possible. But don't take a chance if you feel the roads are not to your liking. If in doubt as to whether there will be a meal or not, call the Community Center. A decision on Lunch will be made by 10 a.m. and a decision on Dinner will be made by 2 p.m. Remember that the Community Center may delay opening in the morning to give time to clear the parking lots, so don't call too early.

The cribbage tournament winners on Tuesday, Dec. 4, were Gail Thayer first, Ron Bodge second, Sherry Westfall got low score and Ken Colby had the high hand. On Thursday, Dec. 6, Keith Bridgham was first, Joan Grondin second, Charlie Hinckley got low score and Keith Bridgham had the high hand.
