Tell It To George
Tell It To George is a collection of thoughts from here and away, from
people who want to get their two cents worth in, without using their
names.
Since when does the paid PR person from the state interpret what the
Wiscasset selectmen are going to do? Oh, I forgot, this is Wiscasset,
otherwise known as Dysfunction Junction.
A letter writer from Boothbay had a bunch of bad ideas in his letter to
the editor last week, which I am most happy to respond to.
A walkway over Main Street (Route 1) in Wiscasset sounds good, but if
you had been at the meeting last week you would have heard that it would
have to be handicapped accessible, meaning a ramp to get to the walkway
would start up at the top of the hill on both sides of the road. That
would look way ugly in the Prettiest Village in Maine, and besides, no one
would use it because they would have to walk ten times as far.
Get rid of parking on Main Street? Oh sure, that's a great idea. I know
the downtown merchants will be jumping up and down with glee, because none
of them want to make any money or sell anything, and this would make sure
they never do.
Get rid of Red's Eats????
What are you, nuts??? This is the worst of your several bad ideas.
People would rather see the bridge blown up than see Red's Eats go
away.
Slow down, respect the town
I plan to drive at the speed limit in town. If the sign reads 25 mph,
that is the speed I will drive. I would encourage everyone else to the
same. What this could do is to allow all who live in town a much safer
access to and from Route 1.
This would also allow the citizens to take back their town from those
who only drive through as fast as they can. At least three companies'
trucks have been clocked consistently exceeding the speed limit and show
us no respect or courtesy should be made to slow down.
Some of those trucks have been clocked at 55 mph going by Holbrooks'
Pond. For those of us with children, adhering to the speed limit shows
responsibility and doing the right thing is an important lesson. Anyone
can drive fast, if takes character to be courteous and responsible as in
driving the speed limit.
Why fear more information?
So the gasification plant developers should accept that "no means no"
huh? And would the ones yelping this have accepted that "yes means yes" if
the vote went the other way?
Right, just like they accepted the people's vote on the Westport boat
launch, and accept George Richardson as first selectmen.
No, they would keep at it, with their pull-toy environmental lawyers in
tow, until they overturned the democratic will in the courts.
At least the developer hasn't lawyered up. He has faith that, with more
true information in front of them, some Wiscasset voters can be persuaded
to change their mind.
So if the opponents are so sure they are right, why would they fear
more information? What don't they want Wiscasset voters to know?
