Pemaquid Chapter, NSDAR
Members of Pemaquid Chapter, NSDAR held its regular meeting and
Christmas party on December 8 at the Lincoln Home in Newcastle. Guests
were Marjorie and Calvin Dodge of Damariscotta and Jessica Tukey of New
Harbor.
Regent Louise Brown opened the meeting with a warm welcome. The
invocation was given by Chaplain Wintie Templeton. Regent Brown led
members in the Opening Ritual, Pledge of Allegiance, the American's Creed
and the Preamble to the Constitution with Wintie Templeton, Chaplain.
The President General's Message was read by Jane Simonds and Elaine
Davenport gave the National Defense Message, "Voting Is Right
Responsibility" by Peggy Salitros, Powder River Chapter, Colstrip,
Montana. A book sale was held during the meeting.
Regent Brown introduced the guest speakers, Marjorie and Calvin Dodge
who gave a very informative and interesting talk about the early history
of Damariscotta, 1840-1892, displaying on an easel the different ships
built in the twin villages, Newcastle and Damariscotta including the
changes which have occurred in the towns. Fliers and pictures were passed
around for viewing. Regent Brown thanked the guests and presented a small
gift in appreciation.
The secretary's report was read by Elaine Davenport and the treasurer's
report by Jane Simonds, accepted as given and placed on file for audit.
The following committee reports were given: Constitution Minute by Regent
Brown, American History Spot by Miriam Buckley, Indian Minute by Regent
Brown, Women's Issues by Elaine Davenport, DAR History Spot by Cathy
McDaniel. A card was sent to Mary Lee Merrill and members sent Christmas
card greetings to the veterans. The correspondence was read by Regent
Brown, a thank you for clothing from the VA Hospital.
The delegates and alternates to Congress were unanimously voted on.
Regent Brown read an article on the Insignia and an article from Carolyn
Kelly, Silent Howard Hayden Chapter.
At this time, members all enjoyed in taking part in the very enjoyable
Christmas play written by Marjorie Drisko. Some are actors and some are
not but members thoroughly enjoyed Marjorie's marvelous play.
"The United Way of Maine, Dial 211 or go online Maine" were passed to
each member. Regent Brown thanked today's hostesses, Elaine Davenport,
Wintie Templeton, Claire Little and Louise Brown.
The next meeting will be April 12, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Lincoln Home
when we will be honoring the Good Citizens chosen from the Senior classes
of the Lincoln County schools. Hostesses will be Miriam Buckley and Joelle
Haase.
The Benediction and Thought for the Month was given by Wintie
Templeton, Chaplain. A luncheon was held after the meeting.
