Wiscasset Senior Center

Wiscasset Senior Center
Wasn't the snow and cold of last week just great? It is indeed one of
the benefits of living in this area year round. It is something to enjoy
and marvel at by just looking out the window or better still by getting
out and shoveling the snow from one place to another. I know many of the
Senior Center members must feel that way because we had such small groups
at the dinner on Wednesday and lunch on Thursday. There were only 29 at the Community Dinner but Steve was back and
whipped up a great meal as usual. At announcement time Ted noted that we
were all glad to see Steve back and to hear that Spencer was doing well.
Steve got an enthusiastic round of applause. Steve's birthday is in
January and he joined Jackie Ouellette, Denise Clark and Larry Clark in
getting a piece of cake with a candle and the traditional serenade of
"Happy Birthday" led by Ted. Ted also tried to get everyone to sing "Let
it Snow" and other snow songs but there was little enthusiasm for
that. There were a number of first timers at the Community Dinner. Ted
mentioned that they were friends of Mim's and then the jokes started. But
seriously that is the most effective way to get more people to attend;
invite some friends. Everyone is welcome and everyone from the very young
to the very old (but young at heart) is accepted and will find it a
relaxing dining experience. You've probably noticed that prices in area restaurants have gone up.
Gasoline is also more expensive. To go out for a meal is getting more and
more expensive. However, the price at the Senior Center has not been raised. Everything
is included at the Community Dinner. There is a great hors d'oeuvres table
filled with all kinds of hot and cold appetizers. Entrée and
vegetable portions are huge, and dessert is always included. There is no
better bargain available anywhere. But we too will have to consider raising prices if we keep getting such
low attendance. Please let us know if you'd like to see any changes or if
you have suggestions for entrees. Best of all, please attend frequently
and do invite some friends to come with you. You will all enjoy it. Steve said that Spencer is doing well and will go back for a checkup in
a couple of months. At that time the doctors will decide if everything is
progressing OK or if additional surgery may be necessary. Steve also
mentioned that his truck had died but as long as his family was doing OK
he was happy. It's admirable to see someone able to count their blessings
amongst a lot of stress. The cribbage tournament winners on Tuesday, Jan. 2, were Gail Thayer
first, Sally Sherman second, Larry Roy got low score and Betty Sawyer had
the high hand with a fantastic 28. On Thursday, Jan. 3, the winners were
Doc Schilke first, Barbara Farrar second, Larry Clark got low score and
Ken Colby and Larry Clark tied for the high hand. Activities for next week
