For those who have reserved a Soup Group take-out Sunday Supper, remember to pick it up at the Edgecomb Congregational Church by 5 p.m., January 20, 2008!

Our thespian McQuaides both appeared in the recent Lincoln County Community Theater production, 'A Hand for Murder,' a murder mystery based on actual events in 1877 Tenants Harbor, re-worked with a suggested solution by local author Art Mayer.

Mill Roader Barbara Gibson is leading dog walks along Boothbay Region Land Trust trails, a different one on the third Friday of each month. First walk is Friday, January 18 - Wow! That's tomorrow! Give your dogs a treat! Take them to meet the group at 9:30 a.m. at Lobster Cove Meadow. Be sure to keep your dogs under control at all times, and please bring containers to clean up behind them. Some drinking water is also wise, for both dogs and humans. In case of bad weather, call BRLT at 633-4918 to see if the walk has been cancelled. Other than that, just show up!

Bruce brought home some pollock recently, which came all the way from Alaska! Looking for a way to use it immediately (not exactly fresh off the boat!), we found a slender cookbook, 'Fabulous Feasts with Maine Seafoods,' published by the Maine Department of Sea and Shore Fisheries 'under appropriation number 42667 with the cooperation of the National Marine Fisheries Service and funds provided by P.L. 88-309.' I could tell it was my mother's, because it was stuffed full of clippings, as was her wont.

One of the clippings: Does anyone remember Walter 'Duke' Pushard who was living in North Edgecomb on the Boothbay Road in 1979? This particular clipping is a Maine Sunday Telegram food article by staff writer Millie Stewart, dated June 10, describing his cooking, vegetable gardening and wild foods expertise. At the time of the article, Mr. Pushard was the manager of Depositor's Trust Co. in Wiscasset. The article includes a recipe for Baked Scallops in White Clam Sauce, which, if anyone wants it, you can contact me as given below!
