The University of Maine Cooperative Extension is offering a series of
workshops for home gardeners. If you're a veteran gardener looking for
technical help or a novice gardener who needs the basics, these three
hands-on workshops led by Extension Educator Mark Hutchinson will help you
succeed with vegetables, small fruit or ornamentals.
Tuesday, January 29 -
Soil Organic Matter and Fertility.
Learn about the foundation of your garden and how to maximize soil health
for your plants.
Tuesday, February 5 -
Growing Small Fruit
. Highbush blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and blackberries are
popular in Maine gardens. Learn what it takes to make them bear delicious
fruit for fresh eating and preserves.
Tuesday, February 12 -
Mulching and Irrigation for Small Gardens
. Once your garden is planted, this workshop will show you how to decrease
the need for weeding and watering.
All classes will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Knox-Lincoln Extension
office, 377 Manktown Road in Waldoboro (across from Medomak Valley High
School). Each session is $5 and includes handouts. Space is limited, so
please call 800-244-2104 to register in advance.
