Tell It To George
Tell It To George is a collection of thoughts from here and away, from
people who want to get their two cents worth in, without using their
names.
I was disappointed that two weeks went by with no letters. I was
also saddened that not even a disgruntled recipient of a holiday gift, one
that was tasteless, lacked usefulness and was probably a "do over" from a
previous holiday wrote you whining and screaming.>
Me, I got several gifts of questionable utility. A metal tube-like
contraption that pulls weeds. Who needs it? Weeds are green and so is my
lawn. And a mad bomber hat that makes me look silly.>
Anyway, George, have a Happy New Year.
Are the people who are displaying the signs that read, "Great teachers
make great schools"
for
...or
against ...
the Wiscasset teachers union and their contract? I mean, come on....
They tell us "Great teachers make great schools" and "Great
schools" stimulate local economy, by attracting new business,
and families, and students, and blah, blah, blah. Using the same T.U.L.,
(Teachers Union Logic), "Bad teachers make bad schools," and "bad schools"
lose business and damage the local economy and drive students away…
and blah, blah, blah.
There are a record number of houses for sale in Wiscasset, and
they're not being bought up by business owners who are moving into town.
Student enrollment continues to decline drastically. There are even
teachers
that live and work in Wiscasset , yet send their own children to other
schools! 66 percent of the freshmen class is failing at least one subject
and 50 percent are failing two!
There are a growing number of us who can't afford to flee the town we
once loved, and are forced to pay for someone else's idea of a "great
school" through outrageous property taxes.
At least give us some honest signs. How about "It's all about me,
cause I'm spoiled, and you made me that way." It would be easier to live
with. We should publicize the negotiation details, and make this contract
a ballot article.
In favor of "not so bumpy"
Have the Westport Selectmen put Main Road on the state's list to repair
the road come spring or summer?
It can't cost what the bypass will, to do a little repair, and might
make the wait in Wiscasset a little more bearable if the final trek home
is not so "bumpy."
Who's doing all the logging off West Shore Road? Those logging trucks
are doing lots of damage to West Shore Road and Post Office Road.
My tax dollars better not be used to repair the road that someone else
is damaging for profit.
Rude people need name tags
Although the Wiscasset Library is great, is there a chance the
librarians could wear name tags?
Everyone has a bad day, but rudeness is rudeness, and there was one
very rude woman the other day.
If there are specific rules, could they please be posted
appropriately?
