Getting old(er) has its ups and downs and last week was the down part for me. But I'm back now and that is enough about downs.

Now for the ups. Larry Clark left on his annual European ski trip last Friday. He has been doing this for the last 12 years and this year the ski group he belongs to is going to the Southern Alps in France.

He said that going to Europe has been cheaper then going to the Rocky Mountain area ski resorts and the group is able to put together a good package including most meals which makes the trip more affordable. Larry was on his high school ski team and has never lost interest in skiing. He has amassed quite a number of pins from ski areas he has been to and proudly displays them on the hat he wears.

The Senior Center dining room decoration committee and some of Larry's friends made a great display of a skier for the bulletin board. I think it looks like a skier zooming down a ski run but Larry said it looked like a skier flattened into a snow bank. He said he does remember just once doing that, but obviously the thought of that event must have stuck in his mind!

It is great to see seniors keeping their adventures going. I think all of our individual adventurous spirits are lifted up by hearing of the exploits of some of our peers. I'm sure we all have those dreams of adventures we would like to take but realize we will never do it. I always thought it would be neat to hike to the top of Katahdin. However I have trouble just walking a mile or so on level ground, so I doubt I'll ever climb the mountain. Let me know what adventures you still take or dreams of adventures you would like to take.

There was a big turnout at last Wednesday's Community Dinner. There were a bunch of new faces and we try to make it known that anyone is welcome but we do appreciate people making reservations at least two days in advance. We will be trying something new for the process of calling tables to be served. Just before dinner time, Ted will go to each table and let one person from that table pick out a calling sequence number. Then the tables will be called starting with the low number and progressing to the highest. Even with the maximum crowd present, it takes less then 10 minutes for all to be served and the last meal served is just as good as the first.

The Wiscasset Primary School Game Club has issued an invitation to the Wiscasset Senior Center membership to an hour of Bingo on February 13 from 3 to 4 p.m. This is a special opportunity to have some fun and meet some great kids. Please call the school at 882-7585 by February 6 if you want to attend. Space is limited.

Isn't it encouraging that the days are getting longer and brighter? Have you noticed the Anderson Farms sign in Edgecomb with the countdown to spring and baseball? Green grass and baseball will arrive just as it has every year and the years keep coming and going. Do you realize that in February the Community Center/Senior Center will celebrate its 10 th anniversary? Do you have some special memories of those 10 years? Let me know and we will try to make a special review of those times.

The cribbage tournament winners on Tuesday, Jan. 22, were Jane LaBreck first, Ann Merry second, Sherry Westfall got low score and Earl Dighton, Patty Bridgham and Sally Sherman tied for the high hand. On Thursday, Jan. 24, the winners were Ron Bodge first, Keith Bridgham second, Sherry Westfall got low score and Doc Schilke had the high hand.
