It's the last week of January and all seems quiet and peaceful. The road crew must be taking some time to catch their breath after such a crazy start to the month. Paul and I enjoyed a walk through the woods to the Tarbox property and back.  He wore snowshoes and I wore metal cleats on my boots because of the underlying ice, but it was a beautiful walk.  Just because it's winter doesn't mean you should give up activity, just remember the safety aspects of proper gear and letting someone know where you're going.

Have you been in the store lately? They have taken several suggestions from local folks and changed things around. They are also making some additions to their menu. Starting this Thursday, they have invited me to come cook some of my specials. I often have people saying they miss my homemade macaroni and cheese, so that is what I'll cook this week.

Last Friday, Lori cooked a delicious turkey dinner to offer along with the prime rib special. She used the rest of the turkey for sandwiches and it went over so well she is going to cook fresh turkey breasts rather than rely on deli turkey. That will be a nice change. Also, they have a very nice Super Bowl Sunday special going on. Don't hesitate to ask about deliveries as you won't want to miss any of the game. Ask them about their 10-15 percent discount when you call them at 882-9300.

Speaking of great food, don't forget to add the Westport Volunteer Fire Department Public Supper to your calendar. It is slated to be held on Saturday, March 8 beginning at 5 p.m. If you typically go out on a Saturday evening, why not plan ahead to support the department by attending their dinner? If you typically don't go out, why not plan to make it a special treat for you, your family, and your neighbors? The food is always fabulous, the desserts outrageous, the fire fighters courteous and the company is warm.

In case you missed the notice about the Democratic caucus, I'd like to take this opportunity to remind and encourage people to attend this event. It will be held at the Wiscasset Middle School at 3:30 p.m. along with Alna, Dresden and Wiscasset residents. If you need to register, you can do so on site beginning at 3 p.m.

The purpose of this caucus will be to choose a Democratic nominee for President, elect delegates to the Maine Democratic Convention, elect leaders of the Westport Island Democratic Committee and share ideas for the direction of the Maine Democratic Party.

For additional information, or an absentee ballot for anyone unable to attend, contact Dennis Dunbar, Caucus Convener, at 882-8143.
