Tell It To George

Tell It To George is a collection of thoughts from here and away, from people who want to get their two cents worth in, without using their names.

Ballsy mailbox basher

To the person who decided to take out my mailbox during the last snowfall, you know who you are!! If you can't drive, that's one thing. But if you lost control, that's another. Whatever the reason, I'm out a mailbox and post, and so is my neighbor. The obvious thing to do would be to stop and say "I'm sorry. I'll replace your mailbox."  There is such a thing as responsibility and courtesy.

Please feel free to put a check in the mailbox at any time but be careful, it's not fastened to anything and it could blow away. (Oh yes, by the way, I have some of your vehicle parts that you left behind.)

"Maine, the way life should be ??"

Marina under construction?

We now have a new interpretation of "marina," compliments of Point East: three lonely pilings in the river.

Diligent selectmen

Will the same selectmen that let a year go by with no action taken on Sutter's sunk boat now have the courage to enforce the town ordinances and level the required fine?

Way more screwed up

We've had two selectmen's meetings when Ben Rines asked why there were three overdrafts listed in the annual report, and no stepped up to the plate to give us an answer - not the $80,000 a year town manager (I only know the salary because the Wiscasset Newspaper reported he got his raise in a secret session of the selectmen), not the $??? Treasurer, whose salary I don't know because they don't put salaries in the annual report anymore, and none of the selectmen knew either. Phil DiVece, the newest selectmen, tried to find out, but even he couldn't.

The town is way more screwed up than I thought it was.

Too many top dogs

I would like to make a few suggestions for the school department. Stop wasting money in going to court - it's turning into who can cry the loudest. Take away the over abundance of administration in the system. (three principals, one vice principal, computer coordinator, curriculum coordinator). You cut everything and anything to avoid cutting out some of these jobs.

Teachers, if you think that we feel bad about you not getting everything you want, you're wrong. Get with reality. Insurance is no longer free, raises never catch up to the rising cost of living. Do what was proclaimed in the paper: "We are here for the children," said Ms. Thompson.

Are you? I left when things were starting to go bad. I am still in and out of the schools. I respect my former co-workers. But calm down and be reasonable. Tony True is not the voice of everyone. But a meeting of the minds in needed.

I say again, less administration (town and school). Be there for each other, students and school. It will outweigh all else.

We love you guys!

I just want to say how hard our town crew has been working this winter to keep us from getting buried in snow, week after week, and how much my neighbors and appreciate it. I'm over 80, and I can't remember a winter with so many storms after storms. And years ago we had twice as many on the crew. Thanks guys, we love you all.

How long?

How long could I have my derelict boat on the town ramp? Not very long, not one day.

Yikes!

Look into all the raises administrations have gotten in our schools and town. Also how many we have and how many we need. YIKES!

Our votes need to matter

The townspeople elect selectmen to office to be the voters' voices when carrying out our town business in the very best interests of what these town voters want…

When officials are elected to office, they are representing the wishes of the town as a whole, and these are the same people who elected them by majority vote.

Voters go to the polls to vote on positions and issues they feel are important. So far, our vote means so little and isn't being heard, so what's the point of taking time out of our busy schedule to actually go and vote anyway. Our votes need to matter.
