Town of Wiscasset

The Town of Wiscasset announces the establishment of its first conservation commission. During 2007, the Board of Selectmen authorized the creation of an ad-hoc committee to explore how Wiscasset can develop a formal conservation commission and to investigate priorities the commission can consider once formed.

After several months of meetings, the ad-hoc committee concluded that the creation of a standing conservation commission and adoption of a policy that included the commission's membership, duties and powers would be an excellent way the town could help protect and plan for the town's natural resources. The Board of Selectmen agreed with the ad-hoc committee's conclusion and authorized the formal establishment of the Wiscasset Conservation Commission.

In order for the commission to begin its work the town needs volunteers who are willing to commit some of their time and effort. The town is not seeking people with specific qualifications, just those who are interested in natural resources. If you are interested in learning more about the commission's responsibilities or would like to volunteer, please contact Jeffrey Hinderliter by phone at 882-8200, ext. 106, e-mail town plan
