I just received an email from the Fire Department stating they have
cancelled their planned March 8 supper until further notice. The wrath of
winter weather has taken its toll on the parking lot and they are fearful
people trying to park and make their way in to the dinner may put
themselves in danger of falling. Therefore, they will postpone the dinner
until the parking lot has become clear of ice. Chief Bob Mooney will keep
me informed of a new date and I will be sure to include it in this
column.
As big of a disappointment as that is, I do have another option of a
delicious dinner you can enjoy next week while benefiting the community.
Bintliff's Ocean Grille on Davis Island in Edgecomb is hosting the "Just
Dessert" program. Every Thursday night through the winter months;
Bintliff's is giving 10 percent on its profits to local charities. On
Thursday, March 6, the Human Resource Committee of Westport Island is to
be the recipient of Bintliff's generous offer. We want to encourage
Islanders to go to dinner at Bintliff's on Thursday, March 6. If you can't
make dinner, stop in for dessert and a coffee. The restaurant is open on
Thursday from 4 p.m. until closing.
On Sunday, Paul joined Mary Ellen Barnes at a presentation of the
Lincoln County Historical Society in Wiscasset. He really enjoyed learning
some local history, which focused on maritime vessels from Indian canoes
right up until more modern fishing vessels. There was a great turnout for
the event.
You may soon notice Paul driving again as the doctors have given him
the green light to go ahead and try his independence. He plans to keep it
very local and only when he is feeling exceptionally well-rested. He's
made such tremendous progress; we're all very proud of him.
Last week, while I was helping at the store, Kyle DiPietro came in with
some fliers. He and Angela Trom-bley have a business called the Squire
Tarbox Farm. It is a MOFGA Certified Organic Farm and he is looking for
community support. They are selling shares in the business which will
entitle shareholders to a discount on the fresh produce from the farm.
They will also be offering a limited number of work shares.

The Westport Island Budget Committee will be changing it's meeting time
to the first Tuesday of the month beginning on March 4 at 7 p.m. at the
town office.
Lori, from the store, called to ask me to mention someone lost a tube
of prescription cream from a local vet at the store. She is holding it at
the check out for you. Also, I will be cooking a special again this
Thursday. I'm thinking of making curried chicken this week. If you have
any special request, please don't hesitate to let me know. We aim to
please.
